Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
Vision
The vision of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is to be a pioneering faculty that is recognized at national and international levels in the fields of research, education, and service in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, that is innovative and respected, and that builds the future of society.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is to train, through personalized education, enterprising, respected, and highly qualified physiotherapists and health educators who serve to protect, maintain, and improve public health, who are sensitive to social problems and possess social responsibility, and who are innovative and prioritize scientific, humane, and ethical values.
Our Aim
The educational aim of our Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation program is to train physiotherapists who embrace the protection, promotion, and improvement of health, the prevention and treatment of diseases, and the enhancement of quality of life through increased functionality; who evaluate, interpret, and synthesize clinical problems (basic assessment methods, observations); who possess clinical decision-making skills; who take an active role in public health; who are committed to ethical principles; who have strong communication skills; who use informatics and technology effectively; who possess social responsibility; and who embrace an innovative outlook and the principle of lifelong learning.
Education Process
Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is a scientific discipline, applicable in many areas of medicine, in which the approaches required for improving and maintaining functional capacity — before or after all kinds of diseases, injuries, old age, and painful conditions that lead in particular to movement and functional impairments — and for maintaining and protecting health are applied by physiotherapists. A physiotherapist, in turn, is a health professional with professional autonomy who identifies problems arising from injury, illness, congenital disability, movement system disorders, or other conditions using special measurement and assessment methods; who, in accordance with the specialist physician's diagnosis, plans, implements, and, through re-evaluation, reports on the physiotherapy and rehabilitation program aimed at improving functional capacity; and who also plans appropriate exercises and preventive programs to maintain the health of healthy individuals. Physiotherapists, who have a wide field of employment in public and private institutions, can pursue master's and doctoral studies through postgraduate education after graduation and can serve as faculty members in physiotherapy and rehabilitation departments. In our department, learning methods such as independent study, lifelong learning, observation, presentation, analyzing clinical problems, teamwork on cases and course-related topics, and making effective use of informatics and technology are employed.
About Our Department
Our Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation conducts its education in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation building located on the Hasan Kalyoncu University campus. Our department, which admitted its first students in the 2011-2012 academic year, produced its 12th cohort of graduates this year. Conducting its undergraduate education with 3 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, and 3 Research Assistants, our department continues its courses with faculty members and staff who are experts in their fields. In our practice-based department, education is provided in our classrooms and in practice rooms dedicated to each course. For the clinical work of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students and for our students' on-site observations and practice, it stands out with the Kalyon FTR Medical Center and the FTR Application and Research Centers.
Accreditation
Our Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation was previously accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Health Sciences Education Programs (SABAK) for a period of 5 years, covering 2020-2025. Our department, which has continued its quality education after obtaining a 5-year accreditation in Türkiye, applied to the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Education Programs Accreditation Association (FTR-AD) with the new academic year and ensured that the accreditation process continued without interruption. As a result of this successful process, our department has been re-accredited by FTR-AD for a period of 5 years, covering the years 2026-2031.
Our Graduate Programs (Master's and Doctoral Programs)
Our Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation graduate programs are structured to train professionals who embrace the promotion of health, the prevention and treatment of diseases, and the improvement of quality of life through increased functionality. In this context, individuals are trained who identify clinical problems and evaluate and interpret findings on a case in a multidimensional manner, who possess advanced clinical decision-making skills, who take an active role in public health, who are committed to ethical principles, and who have strong communication skills. Scientific added value is provided to the field through well-equipped researchers who use informatics and technology effectively, who adopt interdisciplinary work as a principle, and who embrace an innovative outlook and lifelong learning.
Within the scope of our graduate education, our Master's program, which began operating in 2014 and provides education in the fields of "General Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation" and "Orthopedic Rehabilitation", has graduated 115 "Specialist Physiotherapists" to date. Our Doctoral program, opened in 2016 with the aim of training "Doctor Physiotherapists" capable of conducting independent scientific research and contributing to science at a universal level, has produced 46 graduates as of now.
In addition to their theoretical and practical education, our students participate in various projects, research studies, or health screenings, take part in social responsibility projects, and are actively guided toward entrepreneurship and career planning from their very first years.
