Lateral Transfer
Hasan Kalyoncu University allows students enrolled at another higher education institution, or in a different program of our own university, to transfer into its associate and bachelor’s degree programs within the framework of the “Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions.” Lateral transfer applications are submitted online; the required documents are scanned and uploaded to the system, and applications are evaluated by the boards of the relevant units.
Types of Lateral Transfer
1. Lateral Transfer by Grade Point Average (GPA)
GPA-based lateral transfer may be carried out within the institution (between programs of our university) or between institutions (from another higher education institution to our university). For this route, the student must meet a specified grade point average and there must be available quota in the target program. The minimum GPA requirement and the evaluation criteria are determined by the Senate and may be updated from term to term.
- The minimum GPA required for intra-institutional transfer and the minimum average required for inter-institutional transfer are announced in each term’s call.
- In the evaluation of merit-based inter-institutional transfer, the student’s central placement (ÖSYS/YKS) score and grade point average may be calculated together with specific weights, as stated in the call.
2. Lateral Transfer by Central Placement Score (Additional Article 1)
Lateral transfer under Additional Article 1 is based not on the grade point average but on the student’s central placement score in the year of enrollment. To apply through this route, the student’s central placement score in the year of enrollment must be equal to or higher than the base score of the target program in that same year.
- A student may transfer only once under Additional Article 1.
- A student who transfers under this provision may reapply in subsequent application periods to return to the institution they left.
Documents Required for Application
At the application stage, the following documents are generally scanned and uploaded to the system:
- A current-dated student certificate
- A certified transcript (grade status document)
- A certified curriculum and course contents
- A document stating that no disciplinary penalty has been received
- ÖSYM result document and the detailed (placement) result document
- For Additional Article 1 applications, a certified document stating that no previous transfer was made under this article
- For transfers from higher education institutions abroad, an equivalence certificate and notarized translations of the documents
For transfers into certain programs that provide instruction in a foreign language, a preparatory class success certificate or an equivalent foreign language exam success document may be required. When transferring from a Turkish-medium program to a foreign-language program, the foreign language requirement must be met; students who do not meet this requirement attend foreign language preparatory education.
General Conditions
- Transfer cannot be made to the first and last semester of associate degree programs, nor to the first two and last two semesters of bachelor’s degree programs.
- At the final registration stage, the additional documents specified in the call (copy of identity document, photographs, tuition fee receipt, a document stating there is no obstacle to the transfer, etc.) are required.
Application Calendar and Quotas
The lateral transfer application calendar, quotas, minimum grade point average, and evaluation criteria are announced separately for each term and vary from term to term. For the current application dates, quotas, and program-specific conditions, please follow the relevant term’s official lateral transfer announcement and the announcements of the Office of Student Affairs.
