Who Can Apply as an International Student?

Within the framework of the regulations of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the main groups of applicants eligible to apply with international student status are:

  • Foreign nationals who are in their final year of high school or have graduated from high school.
  • Applicants who were Turkish citizens by birth but who renounced Turkish citizenship with the permission of the Ministry of the Interior, and their descendants (holding the relevant documentation).
  • Dual-nationality applicants who were foreign nationals by birth and later acquired Turkish citizenship.
  • Turkish citizens who completed their entire secondary education abroad, excluding the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
  • TRNC nationals holding GCE AL examination results.

Applicants who are not eligible: Turkish citizens who completed their entire secondary education in Türkiye, TRNC nationals who completed their entire secondary education in the TRNC (except those holding GCE AL results), and individuals who have been expelled from a Turkish higher education institution due to a disciplinary offense cannot apply with international student status.
