Software Engineering

The main goal of our Software Engineering Department is to train qualified engineers who can analyze, design, develop, test and deploy high-quality software systems. This goal is supported by undergraduate and graduate education programs, scientific research, student projects and industry collaborations.

The language of instruction in our department's undergraduate program is 100% English. Before starting the department, our students receive one year of English preparatory education at the School of Foreign Languages. Students who successfully complete their foreign language education become eligible to begin the Software Engineering undergraduate program, which consists of four years and eight semesters.

After seven semesters of theoretical and applied education, our students participate in the CO-OP (Cooperative Education in Industry) program in the eighth semester. Within the CO-OP program, students work for one semester at companies collaborating with our University, gaining the opportunity to apply their professional knowledge and skills in a real work environment, to get to know the sector closely and to gain work experience.

Within the scope of the Erasmus and Erasmus+ programs, our students have the opportunity to study abroad and to complete their CO-OP internship there. In this way, they get to know different cultures, improve their foreign language proficiency and gain international work experience. Our graduates can also continue their academic development at the international level by being admitted to master's programs at distinguished universities abroad.

Our department's students actively participate in TEKNOFEST, TÜBİTAK and other national and international technology, software and project activities by forming interdisciplinary teams. Achieving significant successes with the projects of high scientific and technological value they develop, our students improve their skills in research, teamwork, project management, problem solving, developing innovative ideas and translating scientific results into practice. In addition, our students' entrepreneurial activities are supported. They are provided with training, guidance and mentoring support so that they can turn their innovative ideas into commercial ventures and establish their own companies within HKU Technopark.

Our students, who serve as executives or members in the student societies within our university, organize hackathons, technical trainings, seminars, conferences and career events. These activities, which bring students together with sector representatives, contribute to students developing their professional networks and preparing more strongly for the business world.

Our students, who develop projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis and intelligent systems, are trained as engineers capable of adapting to current technologies and the changing needs of the sector.

Our students;

• Training them, through English-medium education, applied learning, industry collaborations and international experience opportunities, as innovative, entrepreneurial and qualified software engineers who can use artificial intelligence and current software technologies ethically and effectively,
• Carrying our department to a pioneering, innovative and preferred position at the national and international level by supporting their participation in scientific research, student projects, technology competitions and entrepreneurship activities,
