Visual Communication Design

Since 2018, the Department of Visual Communication Design has been training designers who can transform information into design through strong communication strategies and who are proficient in new communication technologies. Graduates of our department may work in fields such as graphic design, advertising, social media management, photography, desktop publishing, web design, and visual design; within media and production companies, television channels, press and broadcasting organizations, the cinema and television sector, and academic institutions.

Within the Department of Visual Communication Design, various activities aimed at developing students' creativity and design skills are carried out, such as the HKU Design Workshop, the Communication Museum, and the Taga Magazine. In addition, poster design competitions, photography competitions, digital art events, and workshops are organized in our department. These activities are among the notable works that reflect the innovative, productive, and digitally focused design vision of the Department of Visual Communication Design.

In the Department of Visual Communication Design, students will learn the fundamental principles and techniques of visual communication as well as the disciplines of design and art from faculty members who are experts in their fields. Students will take courses covering different disciplines such as basic design, graphic design, drawing, art history, web design, animation, video production, communication, marketing, and psychology, and by combining this knowledge they will be able to develop effective communication strategies. Furthermore, they will gain experience through the many opportunities offered, such as intradepartmental events, workshops, seminars, and internship opportunities.
